Statistical Overview
The Mantis is the ultimate sniper rifle, having needle accuracy and a staggering damage output of 150, and unlike Equalizer, it reaches full damage just outside of average sidearm range. This rifle can only fire 6 shots without pause before overheating, and each shot has a mean kick to it. Being a sniper, it has an enhanced zoom feature that makes it easy to hit a target, and the hitscan nature of this gun further assists with landing a blow. Like all guns, headshots do not amplify the damage of this gun, despite being a sniper.
In-Game Behavior
Being a sniper, the obvious choice is to sit back and click heads. bringing this gun into close combat, while not impossible, is ill-advised, as the gun can only fire up to 6 times, which at a close range, the enemy has plenty of chances to dodge those shots and the damage is only 75 per shot, leaving you to only your abilities and grenades to defend yourself. Weapons that are more DMR like, such as the Saber, will effectively kill you, having good accuracy and a more forgiving magazine, and should be considered top targets, otherwise they may be able to pick you off before you can land two shots.
Pros/Cons
Pros
- The Mantis has one of the highest single shot hitscan damage in the game, only being outclassed by the Equalizer, Grindell, and Galilean
- Can kill an standard Trooper in two shots, and does significant chunks of damage to other units
- Outstanding accuracy
Cons
- Tiny magazine, clocking in at only 5 shots without pause
- Incredibly unforgiving, has a minor pause after each shot, and the reload time is lengthy
- Damage falls off the closer the target, making it a poor choice for close quarters engagements
