Statistical Overview[]
The Cain is a rocket launcher that deals 2000 damage. It is one of the few weapons to be in the thousands for damage output. It needs 4 full seconds to charge up before it fires a single, sluggish 'Death Football'. The blast radius is massive, with only the Orbital Strike Grenade having a larger blast radius. Like the Orbital Grenade, it cannot pierce shields, making the weapon semi-balanced. It also creates a medium-sized radiation field wherever the projectile explodes.
Despite it's high damage, it has the second longest reload for infantry weapons at 10 seconds, with the first being Galilean. Paired with it's 4 second charge, the user must rely on their abilities/grenades to protect themselves when the gun is not primed. The rocket is also the slowest in the game, typically restricting the weapon to slow, stationary, or foolish opponents.
In-Game Behavior[]
The Cain is best utilized as a bunker buster, killing off well defended positions such as in KOTH or the lethargic mechs. While it can be used against everything with a bit of quick thinking, an agile opponent can easily go airborne and shoot you before you even get a chance to hit them. Bringing a melee ability, as well as damage mitigation tools can amplify a user's survivability, but ultimately staying out of the enemy's sightlines is the best way to effectively use the Cain. Assault armor is recommended because of the melee and the increased heath and shields.
Pros/Cons[]
Pros
- Obscene damage, coupled with an equally massive AOE makes this gun extremely lethal against groups
- Projectile, while large and slow, is not as easy to see as an orbital grenade, making it easy to wipe an enemy squad before they see what you're holding
- Can severely injure a mechs as well as loaders and sentry suits
- Radiation on explosion, making the area dangerous for a few seconds afterwards
Cons
- 15 second charge time between shots, demanding careful use
- Slow projectile, not leading a shot on a moving target will often result in a miss
- Can deal damage to the user, potentially killing them if the user has no shields
